Growing up exploring the NW's forests, rivers, deserts, and ocean I have had an enthusiasm for and curiosity about ecological communities for as long as I can remember. My family's involvement in sustainable forestry in Oregon helped me understand the importance of healthy functional ecosystems and the many obstacles these ecosystems face in Oregon and across the world.

I earned my BA in Environmental Biology from Whitman College and MS in Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology from San Francisco State University. I have been involved in a variety of conservation biology projects in Oregon, Washington, California, and Wyoming. I live in Portland and enjoy exploring wild places by foot, ski, bicycle, or boat, eating ice cream, and looking after my ever-expanding collection of house plants.
